Pumpkin Inferno

Warning: Picture intensive!

This past weekend was Thanksgiving for Canadians and I was so blessed to have my son and his family join us for the holiday. This was the first time that I've ever spent Thanksgiving with my grandchildren so it was doubly special. I don't usually see the kids over Halloween either so I took the opportunity to surprise them with a very special Halloween treat. This is the second year that Pumpkin Inferno has made an appearance at Upper Canada Village in Morrisburg, Ontario. This is the same village that decorates with thousands of lights come Christmas for Alight At Night. Follow the link above to see details of Pumpkin Inferno. However I will tell you that each one of these scenes is created entirely from carved pumpkins. Pumpkin Inferno has become a huge hit and was voted as the best new attraction in Ontario last year. I'll let all the pictures speak for themselves!

We start our journey with the grim reaper welcoming us!

A visit under the sea..... Check out the octopus!

With any underwater excursion there is always the chance we'll see a mermaid.

Across the creek we spot a Chinese dragon. I
love how the reflection played out on the water!

This happy group of Jack-O-Lanterns was actually a chorus that extinguished and lit up to the tune of Danse Macabre. My son got video of this but I didn't get a chance to upload it before he left.

Right about this time one of the kids mentioned needing a bathroom. There it was..... the sign carved out of pumpkins of course!

Next, on to a Native Village, complete with teepee and totem pole.

A frightening Canadian Mountie oversees the crowds, while a rather large ghoul points us in the right direction.

The waiter at the local inn proudly displays some items on the menu.

From here we travelled through a garden full of dragonflies, bees, ants and scorpions. The skies above were full of Chinese lanterns.

Next we attended the Zombie Wedding complete with the honeymoon vehicle inscribed Just Buried and license plate Again.

From here we hit the latest addition to the attraction, The House of Horoscopes.

I couldn't resist snapping a pic of my zodiac sign. It's the one on the right. Are you able to make it out? Yup, I'm stubborn!

On to the saloon for a drink. With any luck we'll see a cowboy!

Any cowboy needs his trusty horse!

After a spectacular evening it was time to head home. Even the mouse agrees!

Believe it or not, this is only a portion of the attraction! There are headless horsemen, an Egyptian Pharoh complete with a wall of hieroglyphics, an island volcano complete with cannibals, a humungous word search puzzle, battling knights, forest creatures and more.
Poor Loik was worn out by night's end!

Grandmaman Lynn was pretty tuckered out too. I was glad to return to the comfort of home and my dear, sweet Clarisse who was patiently waiting for us. Then again, even she looked a little strange!

  2. They are amazing - I love the Zombie Wedding.

The horse reminds me of the War Horse they use on stage and that clock is so detailed.

Lovely for you to have all your grandchildren there for Thanksgiving :-)
