A finish..... I think!

I think I finally have a finish on Viktor & Irina. I say think because I'm not sure about the lion's mane. After stitching it I realized that I had counted wrong and it wasn't wide enough. So I added the necessary additions on each side. Although I used the same colour of DMC, there appears to be a variation in the colour. The floss all came from the same skein and I'm not sure if part of it was somewhat faded or what. All I know is that the portion I added on either side of the mane appeared darker. My hubby thinks I'm crazy and says you can't see the difference but I definitely can depending on the light. I'm tempted to tear out the mane and restitch the entire thing which is why I've left off the lion's whiskers for now. What do you think? Should I restitch it or leave it as is? I'm really torn as to what to do. Once I make a decision, then I'll stitch on his whiskers.

As you can see, I left those little flowers in the original pale peach colour. They are much more visible in real life. I've enjoyed working on this piece so much and I'm really going to miss it!
I have a few new pieces coming to me in the mail that I purchased with birthday money so I'll wait to start anything new until they arrive.

I'm hoping to take in my Shakespeare's Peddler Magic Garden Sampler to have it framed in the next few weeks. I really want to hang this one in my home soon. It's a lovely summer design.
I'm afraid I really haven't done any other stitching lately. I'm busy cleaning up the yard and house right now. My boys will be coming out next weekend to weed and plant my front garden for me which will be a big help.

In the meantime I'm spending a lot of my free time reading. It's been too long since I've picked up a book. In the past two weeks I've finished off two Tess Gerritsen novels, The Keepsake and The Bone Garden. Both were excellent. This weekend I picked up Dan Brown's new release Inferno thanks to a gift certificate from my youngest son for Mother's Day. I'm just getting started at it and it's already grabbed me.
I'm stitching away at my May ornament for the SAL now and enjoying being out in the gazebo once more. Clarisse is enjoying it too!

  1. Love it as is, Lynn! Isn't it amazing how the gardening work multiplies? We've been busy with a choir concert and little time for other stuff. It's that time of year, I guess. Cute kitty photo. She looks very royal!

  4. I think Viktor and Irina is okay as it is; however, I can see the slight color difference, and I say, if it's going to bother you and jump out at you every time you look at the piece, it's worth the effort to restitch. If you're just glad to have it finished, though, I think it looks fine as it is. Congrats on the piece overall; it looks lovely!

  6. As much as I'm a fudger when it comes to stitching mistakes and mishaps, I agree with Katie. If it is always going to stick out at you when you look at it, you will never really enjoy it. It probably won't take too much time to re-stitch. On the other hand, if you think you will forget about it, than leave it. I only noticed it after reading your comments about it.

  7. Congrats on finishing V & I! I love this one too and it's on my to-do list. I can't see any difference in photo regarding the colour of the lion's mane but it's up to you. I know if something bugged me about a stitched piece it's better to change it else it will bug me forever.

Maybe you just need to leave it alone for a few days and check back and see if you still feel the same way about the colour.

  9. Love the colors in this piece.
I think it looks ok, a real mane isn't perfectly colored anyway!
Pretty Clarisse, she looks like she is the Queen. :)

  10. Congrats on your finish. If you notice a color diffence it may be from stitching in a different direction than the original section was stitched. It does affect the way the floss lays and catches the light. Does that section look different on the back too?

  11. It looks wonderful in the pictures Lynn, but if you're not happy with it, I think it's worth spending that little bit of time re-stitching to get it exactly how you want it :)
Looking forward to seeing your birthday stash! Have a lovely time reading, best wishes.

  14. It does look a little darker , if it's going to bother you every time you see it, rip it out and do it again or you will lose enjoyment in the finished item .X

  15. I can see the difference but it doesn't bother me. Sweet finish!!!!!!

  16. Looking at Clarisse enjoying the gazebo, it reminded me of a sign I saw yesterday when hubby and I were out touring in the Land Rover... it was for the art show in your town. Has it been a year already since we got together at your's???

I am happy to see that you have been enjoying the gazebo!

As for V & I, I say do what will make you happy and if I know you, you will feel better if you re-do it, regardless if someone else can see it or not - please thyself, that is my advice for today **grin**

Take care, hope to see you soon!

  17. I can see the difference in the mane too but think it looks OK because it is balanced on both sides :)

Tess Gerritsen is one of my favorite authors and I've been working my way through the Rizzoli & Isles series too. I'm hoping that Dan Brown book has finally arrived at work, I can hardly wait to start it!

Clarisse is just so pretty, I love Rag Dolls :)

  18. Hi Clarisse!
If it is going to make you mental Lynn, rip and restitch. I think it is fine, REALLY. Never would have noticed anything til you pointed it out.

  19. Congratulations on another great finish Lynn!

  20. So, you can see the difference only in certain light and angle? Lynn walk away from your piece 5 feet, look at it and tell me if you still can see the difference in colour. If not, just go ahead and frame it. It's a beautiful piece of work, I love it!

  21. I wonder how Clarisse feels about you spending all that time with those other animals, Lynn? Ha ha!! I think she knows she's the queen in your world :)

Love your finish!! I would restitch the mane if you think it will bother you forever--otherwise, I honestly don't think anyone would notice!

  23. Big congrats on finishing Viktor and Irina! They look great together!! It's funny when you look forward to finishing a design then when it's finished, you miss it! Happens to me all the time. Can't wait to see your MAgic garden framed. I still need to start stitching that one. Give a pet to the beautiful Clarisse for me! Titus would like to give her a little nudge too!

  24. Wonderful finish. Personally I can't tell a difference but then again you can look at it in the daylight not just through a computer screen.

  25. Your stitching looks lovely. I can see the shading in the mane, but I would leave it as it looks like natural shading. Ultimately the decision is your own as you are the one who will have to look at it. If it will bug you rip it and re stitch, as if you don't you might never feel happy about it.

  26. Ahhh, what a lovely finish this is. I think I'd leave the mane as it is but if it bothers you too much it would be better to rip it out. I think what Fiona said is right.
